TeamNUS Summit 09. It was a leadership camp for the appointment holders of various sports in NUS, but thankfully, I had the opportunity to go for this camp though I wasn't a captain or vice-captain. The camp was a success, an enriching and great learning experience for me. It wasn't just
about the activities we did, the company made the camp even more enjoyable.

Day1 evening. We all met up at MPSH6 to play ice-breakers games...Blow wind blow is a dangerous mass ice-breakers game. I knocked my head against Siti while running from one end to the other end. -.- After that we were divided into diifferent groups and had mini ice-breakers. I was allocated to b3! My group had volleyball, softball, floorball, netball, badminton, cheerleading, bridge, dragonboat, judo, rugby, soccer and touch people. Shortly after that, it was time to board the coach for Malaysia! Along the ride, we stopped at the customs and various places in Malaysia for supper and toilet break and breakfast.

Day2. We arrived at the earth campsite around 7.30am. There was an introduction to the camp facilities..their toilets and showers area very pretty! They try as much as possible to be as environmentally friendly as possible. After settling down, we went off for our first activity of the day, caving at Gua Tempurung! I think I prefer caving to trekking. It's less humid! Initially we were just climbing steps..then we had to go on all 4 fours as we moved around and crawled through cold water too. *brr* At some places the ceiling was so low and the water so high it was hard to crawl your way through and attempt to keep your clothes dry. Thankfully we had helmets too. If there was something which I got away from caving, it was to remember to use the toilet before we started off! =x

After caving came lunch and then leadership games in the afternoon. We played different games, such as the traffic jam game, at the campsite. It was a good insight, as the different sports people shared various ideas and we discussed about issues such as people, process, product, communication...there was also the rubbish things my group B3 did too, such as crapping and coming up with our own cheer. HEHE. Then came dinner followed by sharings from cheerleading, water polo and soccer. Night walk was cancelled as many of us were very tired by the day's activity. So it was bedtime after the sharing session!

Day3. We splitted into 2 groups, A and B. The A group would do whitewater rafting in the morning and the high ropes in the afternoon. The B group, on the other hand, would start with high ropes first. Since I was in group B, we started off with doing high ropes elements! There was 3 obstacles to complete, the easy, the intermediate and the tough stations. Having been exposed to quite afew high elements since seconday school, the high ropes wasn't much of a challenge to me. I did enjoy trying out the obstacles out in a natural environment, instead of those we see at the Singapore campsites. Their belay system was new to me too. There was no belayer involved. Instead, one just need to hook on the safety line/belayer to another line. 1 bad thing about the high ropes area was the many mosquitoes bites I had! Sobs. I enjoyed the flying fox though, as well as the talking sessions in between waiting to complete the obstacles. Hee.

After lunch, we switched over to whitewater rafting. It was my first experience and I had loads of fun!! Exciting exciting. My guide/instructor for the rafting made the experience even more interesting in the grade 2/3 condition, by giving us countless capsizes. -.- Thankfully, safety wasn't compromised. Then it was time for campfire after the day's activities! I guess we outgrow all the campfire songs..but there was still the mass dance segment, where we danced to 'You are my sunshine'. The dance steps were easy to learn and we just kept changing partners. I suppose it was so that we could meet more new faces and get to know more people. Since campfire night was the last night, all of us stayed up late and had HTHT sessions. We played alot of games, some content sensored and meant only for those present to hear.

Day4. Because we turned in late the night before, I could hardly open my eyes in the morning. It was raining too so I felt like sleeping even more. Nonetheless, I dragged myself up and started packing up. Thankfully for the NUS windbreaker which kept me dry as I transported my bag from the tentage to the bus and breakfast area. After breakfast, we boarded the bus, this time not with our respective sports people but rather, our respective groups. Most of us slept on the bus to KL, but after we reached KL, it was lunch for us and then 'shopping' cum HTHT sessions again! Back on the bus from KL back to Singapore, it was also more HTHTs! Really, the camp had enabled different people from the various sports to come together, allow us to make new bonds and share new insights with one another. It's been a good trip. (:

Sports Camp Part II. It started off with a chalet at Sentosa resort on Sunday night, where liting, steph, michelle, rachel, david, joel, malcolm and I stayed over. We went for the fright night, but Joel and I didn't complete the walk, because apparently, the police were alerted to the activity so the ocomm had to cancel the activity. I did get to experience half of it I reckon. I think i'm too timid! I screamed ALOT. -.- Super unglam please. Michelle and liting commented that they could hear me from outside. zZz. Next day morning, it was beach games at Sentosa! So we played different games..I left during lunch time though, for matric fair duty. Because cp booth was located at the IVP area, I saw many familiar faces, all friends as I walked down the row. They were friends which I had made during the summit camp. It definitely made the fair more interesting, as we would gather at times, to just talk and crap. HAA. After matric fair duty, it was back to sports camp/bash! The Ocomm had organised for a bash to be held at supper club. We were supposed to pay $4 for the entrance fee, but joel, lloyd, xy and I didnt pay..maybe cos we were late. =x The bash was boring...Like all other bashes I guess. It was the company that made the night. And with that bash, sports camp was over. Thank you, SC Ocommers, especially to Hwa Cheng, the project director, for making the camp a success. The councillors and the freshies all had fun. Friendships were made, and the bonds formed wont be broken. Thank you Ang Kong Kia councillors too, for making pre-camp and sports camp to be so fun! Thank you Kua Zui freshies, for the fun and laughter you've brought. :)

I'm going off for nussummit camp! I wonder what I can expect from that camp! Hmm. Anyway, amazing grace (my chains are gone) is a really nice song. (:

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)

Amazing grace

How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now I'm found

Was blind, but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear

And grace my fears relieved

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed

My chains are gone

I've been set free

My God, my Savior has ransomed me

And like a flood His mercy rains

Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me

His word my hope secures

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow

The sun forbear to shine

But God, Who called me here below

Will be forever mine

Will be forever mine

You are forever mine

Whenever my block's void deck has a malay wedding, I look forward to smelling the food they prepare. The smell of their curry is especial tempting!!!! A pity I haven't been invited to those malay weddings!!! I can just imagine their food to taste as good as they smell. SITI! You'd better get yourself a bf soon and then get married and invite me to your malay wedding. (okay I think she's going to whack me if she reads this.) Haha. Thankfully, my malay neighbours do bring delicious for our family malay food during Hari Raya. Their cookies and curry is absolutely superb!!! *thumbs up*

Food aside, I went down to bukit batok secondary school today to 'join' in their NPCC training. Edwin and CY/mr lam/the OC of BBSS npcc has been asking me to go and look-see their training sessions for along time. Since I went free today, I just headed down to their school. It's so far from my house though! Anyway, BBSS training today consisted of muster parade and a PT session then dismissal. It was an eye-opening experience for me to see how their HO and TOs work together to lead their unit. Oh man. I miss those crater days. And on a random note, I finally visited westmall today. My first time to that shopping mall...

Training with only 3 other teammates is dead tiring. We don't get to sub during games. Chase and chase. Sprint and sprint. Urgh. My sprint's slowing down. What went wrong! :( Had a few fast break opportunities today but we just didn't capitalise on it. So far, it's still goalless whenever we play matches. It's true our team don't have strong shooters..but we seldom had the chance to shoot too. Haix.

I need to curb that bad temper of mine. Was feeling upset and irritated during training today. Distracted too. FOCUS FOCUS!

Anyway, Kua Zui had our second outing yesterday! Pinic at marina barrage! My first ever picnic! Heehee. We were supposed to meet at noon, but most people came like an hour later! zZz. Make all those punctual people wait huh! Tskk. Then it was shopping for food at suntec carrefour before we headed over to Marina Barrage. My picnic mat is quite small! There was only space for food, not the people. =x And so, we ate, played, talked, fly kite the entire afternoon..our kite flying session was just letting the kite fly, then leaving that alone though. The kite people aside, Joel, Lloyd and liting happily substituted my buttpad for a frisbee and threw it around. -.- We shifted down to a shady area sometime after we finished our lunch to play card games and other random stuff...evening time, we went to city hall for dinner!! Surprisingly there was chips left over from our picnic so I gave them to the cp guys when I went for pool slot with siti. Heh. I made siti wait 45mins for me though. =x

Random shots we took!

LLoyd and I took this shot while waiting for the shuttle bus to marina bay. Haa.

Cherylyn's forfeit was to do a pose beside that security guard. He was sporting enough to pose for the picture! haha.
Aww. Tammy had to leave earlier so we took a picture together! (:
Kua Zui at the rooftop!
I'm really not used to not receiving your sms-es. Why the sudden change? You shouldn't be affected by that issue, because they dont mean as much as what you mean to me. And you've got to tell me, because I won't know otherwise. Perhaps it never really started. It takes 2 hands to clap. Really. =/

URGH! I'm mad at my brother. He's such a chauvinist(which I totally cant stand at all)! And show me attitude huh. Daddy and mommy are overseas so i'm left to do the laundry at home. HE doesn't even help me out with it. And now he doesn't even fold his own clothes. MISTER, i'm not your maid! It's not just the laundry. He doesn't wash his own dishes either! Roars. Whatever mans.

And I'm feeling really lousy too, because I forgot my daddy's birthday. :( It wasn't until he called from thailand that I remembered.

Hmm. Assessment today ain't that bad. Stamina improved, long range shots improved. but 1-1 shooting was bad. Sprints didn't feel good either. But, I must thank God for all that happened today. Prayers really help. (: Ahh. And i'm going for NTU friendlies this saturday evening, instead of the post-expedition dinner. Haix.

OHOH. My train journey from eunos to city hall took a long time today! Instead of the usual 11minutes, the train ride took 30mins!!!! Apparently, there was some 'train fault'. That's all I know, because that was all they announced over the system. The train simply stopped at each station for a longer period than usual. Thankfully, i saw my mom's friend so we were just chatting away on the train. But I was late as a result! zZz.

MIDNIGHT!/ Thursday, July 09, 2009

No more quarantine! Whee. Met up with simin, clara and siti for lunch yesterday. I was late. =x. Anyways we were debating whether or not to get this blue-green havaians as a team slipper. We didn't get them in the end though, because there were objections from some of our teammates. Lunch was at pastamania then we headed over to billybombers for their milkshake. Sm and clara both claim that billybombers serve the best milkshake, so siti and I got shared a cookies&cream. Sinful indulgences.

After that, it was some window shopping before clara, siti and I went to watch Transformers! The movie's quite nice! My favourite character is bumblebee! Cool car!! Optimus Prime is a likable character too. Like any action-packed movie, there has to be a hot lady, which was Sam's gf! I remember commenting to Siti why the Sam's gf ran as fast as Sam. Yeah, I totally understand that I'm watching a movie. I was just being random. Overall, quite a nice movie I would say..evoked alot of emotions too. Happy, sad, funny etc etc. *thumbs up* Next to watch movie on my list: Harry Potter!

It was more shopping with siti after the movie. My shopping list for the day was to hunt for new palms. There was this pair which I really liked, but they didn't have my size already. I still manage to get new shoes though. In fact, siti and I both got 2 new pair of shoes each at the end of the day. So yepp, I spent quite abit yesterday. Then again, I haven't shopped for a long time, much less partake in the gss that's happening now. So it's okay to spurge! Ohh, we happened to see pb and qw in town too.

Assessment tonight..I hope I improved from the previous assessment! We're using acrobats, though we've already switched to using vamps for training now. It was my first time using the vamps again on tueday's training, so I was turning more than I was paddling straight initially. My lower back aches now..'vamps bite' i guess. And I still can't stern turn fast enough! Urgh. Got to work harder at that. Games on tuesday was good though. We drew with blackcrooks. I had this fastbreak opportunity, but shot badly. =x Needa improve on my shooting too.
Sports camp pictures!
Introducing kuazui!
Urgh. I'm too tanned already..I looked like a malay with that cap on!
Hahaha. Okay I can't rmb how this incident happened. I only rmb that joel got a taste of my whacking skills whilst waiting to try zovfball. HAA.
What's nice about sports camp is we get to try different sports! This was super tough. I had a tough time trying to balance myself.
We went to bottletree to try paintball during sc. Someone got a headshot eh. Nonetheless, we still won! (:

MIDNIGHT!/ Monday, July 06, 2009

One more month before my semester break comes to an end! I'm quite glad I haven't looked for a job during this long break, because my holidays have been very fulfilling so much. I've learnt so much, had many firsts, new experiences and gained many new friendships.

After sc pre-camp I've been busy with a few kayaking courses and SIE trainings. There's always room for improvement in each course/session that I spent with my participants, especially on how to better manage my group.

Then came the actual Southern Island Expedition. Day0, afew of us met up early in the morning, to transfer kayaks over to East Coast and buy food for our expedition. It rained halfway through, so we were stuck at WVEC after we had unloaded all the kayaks. After that, we headed over to parkway parade to buy food! Zomg. We brought like 2 trolleys full of food! I think it was quite fun, placing all the bread and eggs and spreads and drinks and fruits and whatever else, in large quantity (in my opinion) into the trolleys. By the time we were done with the grocery shopping, it was time to head back to changi, to settle all the last minute preparations and a final briefing for my committee members. Then came the participants and the briefing for them. Sadly we didn't play any ice-breakers games that night!

Day1, participants woke up around 6am, many of them got up much earlier actually. Breakfast was great! Egg mayo was a popular hit man. Breakfast and logistics settled, we headed over to East Coast to begin our expedition. I sat on the powerboat, with uncle phillip as the boatman. Gosh. I actually got sea-sick whilst sitting inside the powerboat! Too much turning in circles already. Lunch was at Seringat then we beached up at Sisters for overnight! There was supposedly a NDP rehearsal going that day..i wanted to catch the fireworks but I missed it! It would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to view fireworks from Sisters island! Dinner that night was bbq...nice gathering that night I would say. And yes, there's so many people involved in uniform groups. We just formed a circle and started discussing about uniform groups. What a small world.

Day2, participants woke up at 7am, to scrambled eggs! Eggs make the day I think. Haha. The participants were famished I supposed, all the breakfast we bought were gobbled up. We had a remaining loaf of bread from day1's breakfast and I prepared spreads so that participants could have it on the go..unfortunately, the lonely monkey on the island stole that loaf of bread! HMMMPH. Naughty monkey!!! *whacks the monkey* So the participants paddled all the way back to East Coast, near the hawker centre area. We took the bus back to WVCG, washed up all the logistics, had a final debrief and then released all the participants.

Organising this expedition has been quite an experience for me, be it speaking to MPA, obtaining whatever permission was required for this expedition, getting down to check the logistics, working with my committee members etc. As with any other activity/event, there's room for improvement, especially since this event had been planned by many of us, who had little or no experience at all. Points that had been brought up during debrief won't be forgotten. Yepp. Communication is definitely important. Thanks meiying, for helping me so much in making this expedition a success. I'm sorry for snapping at you during our planning process! Thanks to my other committee members too! Jeremy, for coming up with the t-shirt design and games...i'm sure the games will be put into good use in future! Clement, for ensuring that all logistics were accounted for during the expedition. Zhihao, for getting all the boatmen for me. Jingxin and yeehan, for leading the expedition and taking charge of the participants. Siti, for thinking of the breakfast menu and preparing the breakfast and drinks! Thanks to all others, like tak, silas, yurong, keet, desmond, clarence, ivan for helping out as well! Thanks to all my participants too, for making this expedition a success. (:

After SIE, came CP training camp. It was to start on thursday morning, but H1N1 caused the camp to be postpone until that evening. SDE FOC had a cases of h1n1 so they ended camp early and that affected cp camp indirectly because simin went for that camp and had a fever. Pending her results as to whether she was positive for h1n1, pb decided to postpone the camp until that evening. Thankfully, she was tested negative. So the camp went on. It was definitely more of a bonding camp than a training camp. There wasn't much training except for our water slots. No land pt, except for basketball maybe. What was satisfying was repairing/taping the equipments and washing the shed. We scrubbed the shed clean (whilst the lifeguards were having some competition though. We must have looked unglam.)! Team bonding was great..we played games and watched movie late into the night..sleep at night was over at kuok foundation, 5mins walk from the swimming pool. The rooms ain't very clean. So many curly hairs! HMMM.

CP training camp ended on sunday, and zoom! Off I went for sports camp. Day0 (sunday). Met up for dinner at timbre, went home, unpack CP stuff, then packed for SC. Councillors met up at arts adm to paint our flag and slept over there.

Day1. Freshies met up...played station games and pool games plus SP night. During pool slot, I went to help out with CP so I didnt get to spend much time with kua zui. My immune system was probably weak then, because I had a running nose that evening. Lack of rest, didnt bathe after getting out of the water and went into an air con mpsh after bathing = running nose that lasted until day2 evening.

Day2 was seasports and sports at east coast day. Seasports wise there was kayaking, dragonboat and windsurfing. The kayaking section was really short though. It ended as quickly as it started. Dragonboat was fine..my 2nd attempt at it! A PFD flew out halfway through though. Then we had to paddle back to pick it up. Windsurfing was great! Haha. I saw alex and uncle timothy there! Alex came me a quick crashcourse on windsurfing again. I got whacked on the head by the boom though. :( It was a direct hit! Painful man. Sports at east coast included skating and frisbee! Haa. Again, i'm a noob when it comes to skating! Especially when it comes to skating on slopes. Tough to stop! Oh. We played soccer at The Cage too. Unfortunately, a guy from another OG dislocated his ankle whilst playing soccer. Quite scary to witness that scene. Even worse, that I wasn't able to help him much. :(

Day3 was amazing race day! We went to diff places, like paintball! All the guys brought their no4 to wear..smart move! Haa. My maiden attempt at paintball. And there was also the kangaroo thingy (dunno what it's called). Tough to walk on them, much less jump! Thanks david for supporting me throughout! Haha. OOH. And we had froclicks and udders too. YUMMY yummy. Then came night cycling where we went to various stations such as ROM, old SJI, National Library, Singapore flyer and Liang Court. Liang Court was our first station and it definitely got everyone more awake, because we went to the KTV in there and sung. Super funny the scene. Towards the end of night cycling however, people started to tired out, including myself. I cycled, half asleep. =x Back in ecp however, i had mini races with joel, so I managed to keep awake. Thanks joel! (:

Day4 occurred after we had 2h of sleep, along the east coast park stretch. First up was cable ski!!! Wheee. Another new experience. I didn't complete the round, but it was FUN!! We were supposed to head over to banana boat after that, but were told to report back to school midway through. So we just stopped for lunch at northpoint and then headed back to school. Sadly h1n1 had to appear just when the entire kua zui and camp were enjoying themselves. So we ended camp that evening. There was no chalet no bash, no sentosa games. And we had to qurantine ourselves for a week. Oh wells. The 4days had been fun however! Kua Zui's the chillax group! Haa.

So here i am, being a good girl and obeying the stay at home rule. 5th day already. BORED at home!
