ODAC 'shopping' outing

nellyn.siti.stacy.huizhen.meiying.xiangfeng.wynee.joycelyn.jinken.jiachang.jonathan.kenneth.

8 of us met up at 11 plus at orchard mrt, then went to far east for lunch. As with large groups of people, we took a long time debating where we should have lunch. Initially, we wanted to go to the foodcourt at scotts. And so walked there and found it under revonation. Shows how long we haven't been in town isn't it? xf and hz joined us at far east and we walked around for a while, before heading to borders. The guys are sure patient with us..they simply stood outside the store while we (okay mainly meiying xf hz and I) looked around. Later on, Wynee joined us at borders. We probably stayed at borders for the longest time, lost in the sea of books. After that, stacy joined us at lucky plaza where we played pool, plus arcade. Took neoprints at hereen and then dinner at cine. Our first odac outing shopping! :)

We got some SAJC guy to take a group pic...

Reflections are always a good way of taking pictures.

And yet another reflection again, this time, the wall opposite our previous reflection picture.

What's a better way of spending time when waiting for others besides taking pictues? You can explore the functions in your camera as well haha.

*shakes head* guys. They must have been too bored watching us shop.

We stopped by this sony roadshow to have our picture taken and developed.

yet another reflection picture: the adidas shoe mirror.

I simply love this picture! We took it outside the hereen neoprint shop.

Our neoprints.

Yes, I'm relieved that my common tests are over. But no, I'm not looking forward to taking back the results. And I don't feel happy at all, despite the fact that the mid year tests are over, because I know that the results will be horrendous and I'm ashamed of facing them. So since I know I'll be ashamed of my results, I should have studied harder during the holidays right? I did study during the jun break, but somehow, information does not retain in my brain long enough for me to sit for the exams. So now, I'm worried. Worried not just about the results, but the upcoming prelims as well as A'levels. I know very well that I want to do well for my the A's. I do want to tell myself that I have the capability to do so.

If I were to rate the difficulty of this common test, maths would be the hardest paper, followed by physics, chemistry and econs would be the easiest paper. I didn't have time to completed maths and chem papers. Perhaps it's because I lack the ability to recall knowledge that I've learn. I understand the concepts (okay except for some physics topics), so why is it that I need to think so hard to attempt the questions? Maybe I didn't have enough practices...sigh.

Since chemistry was the last paper today, naturally, we have to had some activities to take our minds off studies for a moment. We deserve it after finishing 4 days of papers, don't we? Or do we? Hmm. So anyway, after we completed chemistry, sel jeanice and I didn't know where/what to go/do. The guys were going to amk hub to watch transformers while the girls were going town to shop. The 3 of us stood outside school, deliberating where we should go. Should we join the guys for lunch and then the girls to shop? However, since the guys' movie was about to start, we dropped that idea and went town instead. At somerset, the 3 of us debated having a k lunch or a sushi buffet. In the end, we chose the latter. So the 3 of us stepped into suki sushi, stayed there for nearly 3 hours and made our stomach bloated. Extremely bloated. Of course, there was the usual crapping and laughing and stoning over lunch. The food wasn't as nice as compared to sakae sushi though. For one, they had fewer varieties. And, we had to wait for quite some time before the food we ordered was served as well.

so while we were waiting for the food that we had ordered, we decided to take some pictures...

My 1st time eating COLD green noodles! BUT, I'm not particularly fond of it. =x

Sel and I always see the 2 of them after our common tests and at cine. And it was stef's birthday as well!

Meiying's class also had lunch at suki sushi.

After lunch, I watched nancy drew with ariana. The cinema was virtually empty except for a handful of us, which included 2 guy among the female audience. I wonder why they would want to watch this movie together..weird. But well. I don't understand guys. Coincidentally, 4 ajcians came to sit besides us during the movie. Hmm. The nancy drew movie was short. It only lasted for 90minutes. I wouldn't say it's a money for value show. It' not very interesting.

How can we leave out the toilet when we take pictures? -.-

When the movie ended, both of us went to meet mingjie yt and lw for dinner and some shopping at mango before heading home. Hmm. I heard alot of gossips.

Group pic with a nice background!

Shopping with odac tomorrow! yays yays. :)

I collected some of my gp assignments today. I think mr cheng must have been angry/irritated/annoyed/displeased/upset when he read my essays, because when I read his comments for the first time, that was how I felt. My work, which I have put in effort to complete, seemed to be a piece of trash in his eyes. Of course, reading his comments again for a second time (after alot of mean thoughts went through my mind =X) calmed me down. He didn't write all these comments so that I would feel demoralised, but so that I could improve my writing. And some of his comments do make sense to me and I did recognise my mistakes. So yes, I shall learn from my mistake as well as be more hardworking. After all, I WANT to excel in my studies.

Meiying baked brownies!! =) Yays. Just when I was complaining about my craving for cookies! And it was delicious! yummy yummy. Thanks meiying! *muacks*

An elderly old lady, whose movements were graceful, boarded the bus. Despite of her age, she had maintained her complexion well. 50 years down the road, would we, young ladies, be as graceful as her? Or would we be old and haggard? Do we have a choice?

I have this sudden craving to eat famous amos cookies. And I think I'm getting fat. I haven't been exercising since last saturday. Instead, I've been eating and sleeping. Hmm.

I finally got my computer repaired today, after leaving it alone for 2 weeks. But I spent a long time fixing it. An hour reformatting my computer and another 2 hours talking to the ISP, router person as well as the HP person, not to mention the bus ride down to The Riverwalk so that I can upgrade my router.

Adventure Singapore 2007
16 june 2007

j sky 23. team 208.
kenneth joycelyn.

4 other j2s, 10 j1s.
ant & eric, stacy & eric
zhiyan & yurong, veron & gina, yunlin & yihang, rongjie & marcus, shamm & n. weijie

Before the start of the race, we had to be at bishan park 1 carpark to select our rented bikes for the race. The 6 of us decided to meet at 0700. The j1s actually met up at 0600 at bishan mrt beforehand! gosh. That's super early. Since the 4 guys all stay near each other, they took a cab down to our meeting area. Stacy's dad fetched stacy to the venue while I took a bus there. I had to wake up at 0520! That's super early as well.

After selecting our bikes, we waited around for some time before a shuttle bus came to pick us up to the starting point of the race, upper pierce reservoir. We reached there in time to see the open teams start off the race.

Half an hour later, it was time for the sprint teams to flag off. And all of us starting running down the path in the direction in which the bus sent us in. Initially, I thought it would be a long run out into our first checkpoint, since the bus journey in was long. But somehow, after gaining momentum, it didn't seem that far. I think we covered 4km, or maybe more, when we ran to our first checkpoint. Our first checkpoint was at lower pierce reservoir, the breakfast point during selection camp.

At our first checkpoint, we had to complete a navigation exercise. From 3 different lamp posts, we had to take bearings and then find 3 clues which would lead us to a chop. Once we completed everything, we could proceed on. My navigation skills ain't that good. :( I couldn't find the clues based on my navigation skills. sobs. Ant and eric plus shamm and n.wei jie were fast! They managed to find the checkpoints pretty fast and were the first 2 teams to set off.

From lower pierce reservoir, we ran to bishan park secondary, where one of the team member had to do rock climbing. Kenneth climbed the wall. The time penalty is really harsh! You only had one try. Fall, and incur a 30 minutes penalty. For the navigation station, you get a 3h penalty if you did not finish the task.

We went to collect our bikes after rock climbing. From there, we cycled from bishan all the way to kallang. Along the way, we managed to overtake shamm's team. However, another team managed to overtake us as well. I don't like the rented bikes. Whenever we pushed the bikes up/down the bridges, the stand keeps coming down. And my bike seat keeps going down was well. Plus kenneth's bike gear wasn't functioning at all and his chain came out for a few times too.

Halfway through the biking route, we stopped by SAJC to complete a task. We had to ascent up the SA bridge and then abseil down the other side of the bridge. Again, only one person need to complete the task and I did it. There was actually a bottleneck at this station, especially since we were the first few teams to arrive. However, ant voiced out the situation and they opened a station for us. It started raining when we started to bike as well! So, it was my first time ascending and abseiling in the rain and at that area. And we saw samuel at this station as well!

The biking segment ended somewhere along the kallang river. Then we continued to jog to our next checkpoint. I thought we would be kayaking then, but then the race officials said we would need to go to another checkpoint first. So then, we ran to our next checkpoint at national stadium. There, kenneth climbed up a ladder and then abseiled down one of the pillars at national stadium.

Completing that station, we went back to the kayak point and kayaked to the condo along kalling river. It was a double sit on top kayak. There wasn't much instructions given, so kenneth and I didn't know where to kayak to. Luckily, we saw ant and eric who were on their way back to the shore and they told us where we should be heading to. We didn't have to do anything there but just hand our race passport into a basket then lift it up and get the passport signed.

After completing that station, we went up the kalling bridge through some secluded path (i think) into our next checkpoint. Along the way, kenneth had cramps so we were slowed down abit. Again, we didn't have any tasks to complete at this checkpoint. After that, we walked on the main road towards esplanade. We passed by the venue where our national day parade would be held. There was rehearsal then, so we could hear gunshots and commands being given.

From esplanade, we walked towards the bungee thingy, which was our checkpoint. Then, race officials directed us towards the fort canning park direction and we passed by some areas which I didn't recognise. At that time, the team from marist odac overtook us. :( It was quite demoralising for me, because it's the first time in races that any team overtook us. So from being the 3rd team, we became 4th. And we were already so near the finishing line.

Our last checkpoint was at the underpass opposite plaza sing. After that, we just had to go all the way to ngee ann city, which was our ending point. The traffic light slowed us down, but after the last traffic point, we just ran as fast as we could towards the finishing point.

We were the 4th team to arrive. The 3rd team had came in a dew minutes earlier than us. :( We were so close to being 3rd! Arghh. It seems like my best is always not enough. At least, we were the first inter-mixed team. Congrats to ant and eric for coming in 2nd though! *claps* They did a great job. Thanks meiying huizhen diana keetyeng for coming down to support us as well.

ajcians appeared in the AS video! Gina got interviewed.

yunlin and yihang at the sajc station!

:)

this babe came down after the tuition and joined us for the prize presentation!

After the race, there was pre-packed lunch for us. We had lunch and then went to abseil down ngee ann city. Nice! We were even presented with a certificate after completing the abseil. As we were under 21, we needed consent from a guardian. Hence, stacy's dad, who was there, kindly signed the formed for us. Thanks uncle, for helping us and safekeeping our bags under the race as well!

Later on, we went to eat again and then waited for the prize presentation. At around 7 plus, Mr Teo Ser Luck, the parliamentary secretary for ministry of community development, youth and sports came to present the present. Ant and eric went to collect their prizes. They got $200 cash! Cash voucher! Wahh. I'm envious.

we waited a long time for the prize presentation and so decided to take a picture with the 'non-moving' people..

the winners. =)

We went down to cathay cinema to catch fantastic 4 immediately after the prize presentation. Ant's bro had booked 6 tickets for us. The movie was nice! haa. But I feel abit bad, cos half way through the movie, his bro actually sent food in. Like such good treatment! hmm. It was raining heavily after the movie ended, so since the guys were taking a cab home, they gave us a lift to the mrt station before that.

the adorable little boy. he was walking along the streets of orchard road with his father and he was pointing at the sky. after walking for a while, his tiny hands held on to my index finger and he walked for a distance, still looking at the sky. we were also innocent back then and trusted strangers didn't we?

wth. i hate him. he's an irritating piece of shit. he sucks. too bad I can't say he's a son of a bitch, since that would make me daughter of a bitch. arghh. i wonder what skills he brought home after 8 weeks of bmt? nothing i'm sure. still as arrogant and self centred and non-respectful as ever. half of me wish he'd get some kind of retributions, looking at the way he treats me. the half other of me knows i shouldn't have such thinking, that it's wrong to say such mean things cos there always karma. so i should be watching my words right? but i can't help it, especially with my mood now. i simply cannot understand why he must always bully me. yeah. it's only ME. so you must be thinking, the problem lies with me right? since he doesn't respect me at all. i think he's must be some sadist, someone who feels happy to see me angry/sad/crying. he sure knows how to make others' (or rather, ME) miserable. just bcos i pissed him off, he doesn't return me my hp. YEAH. that's a small matter. but it's not just that. it's his actions. why is he so unreasonable? i'm glad that i'm not his gf. he's a stupid mcp. and i don't even know in what way i'd pissed him off. he's like a woman, he pms-es. that's why he takes my hp. actually, that's wrong. i handed him my hp since he asked for it. then he just refused to return it to me. he suddenly pms-ed. that's the only logical reason that i can think of. moral of story? trust no one but yourself. and learn not to be soft hearted to be strong and not to be affected emotionally by things that are happening around you.YEAH. and learn to hate others as well.

so i went for his POP today. what a big mistake. i shouldn't have gone. then nothing what have happened. but i did enjoy myself there. i feel like slapping myself for that. if i hate him, i should be hating everything about him as well and refuse to have anything to do with him. what an oxymoron i am.

Adventure Trail Challenge 07

team: jak jc. SG19.
team members: joycelyn anthony kenneth jiachang.
race day: 6june07.
race distance: 28km.
43 participating inter-school teams.
top 3 teams: cjc cjc cjc.

reporting time: 0730.
our reporting time: 0800.
flag off timing for SG12-22: 0945.
flag off venue: pasir ris white sands field.

checkpoint 1: pasir ris park.
location: open field outside pasir ris water venture near the sea.
task given: kayak around 6 kelongs, pass by 3 kayakers and remember in sequence, the 6 pictures they flashed.

We were the second team to arrive at there, but managed to be the first team to kayak off. Ant and I took a doubles, while ken and jc took the other doubles. Fortunately or unfortunately, ant got a left-hand paddle. Not wanting to waste any time, I swooped my paddle with his. It definitely wasn't easy, paddling with a left-hand paddle, despite the fact that I was left-handed. I was used to using a right-hand paddle, so it took some time adjusting to a left-hand paddle. We covered a distance of approximately 3km in this kayaking segment.

checkpoint 2: lorong halus.
task given: cycle in some rocky areas and complete the entire loop

Though the kayaking segment was short, it left us quite drained out. Redbull made us energised again though. -.- From pasir ris park, we had to walk/jog to lorong halus, passing through some farmway then to the canal and finally, to checkpoint 2. By then, the sun was shinning merciless on us. Initially, I thought that trail biking would be quite tough. The race briefing gave me that impression. Luckily, save for the bouncy up and down feeling, there wasn't much major obstacles. Whenever there was any slopes/dangerous slides, we'd push our bikes. It took us approximately 20minutes, a rough estimation, to clear this checkpoint. And we manage to overtake some teams from the 1st wave as well! :)

checkpoint 3: somewhere between a river.
task given: river crossing.

After the trail biking segment, we had to wait for sometime before being allowed to continue with the race due to bottlenecks. We ran through part of our biking area into somewhere where there was a river. NTU oac had erected a 'bridge' and we had to cross the river using the bridge individually. Our team had to wait for quite a while before we could proceed, since there was already a team in queue. The bridge was made of nettings..it's quite difficult to explain in words, so I shall save the explanation. It was fun experience crossing the river though, especially since this is my first time attempting river crossing.

checkpoint 4: tunnel near paya lebar air base.
task given: tunnelling.

After the river crossing, we had to run through the 'greenery' before we could reach the tunnelling segment. By 'greenery', it refers to plenty of tall grasses/bushes. We had to run up and down some hill. This part of the race reminded me of our rinjani expedition, when we were descending down on day 4 of the expedition. Coming out onto the road after following the race directions, we found out that our water supply was running out. Ant and jc were starting to have leg cramps as well. That however, did not made us demoralised. The determination, to win the race, was there. Arriving at the tunnelling area, we had to wear a rope-made-into-harness and then lower ourselves down into the tunnel. Then, we had to clip ourselves to a rope, so that if there was flash flood, we won't get swept away. I think tunnelling is bad for you back. We had to bend our back and run through the tunnel! That position, coupled with the running, left me quite breathless for a long while after that. And after the race had ended, my back hurt.

checkpoint 5: ikea field.
task given: walk on 2 planks provided and complete a series of obstacles.

Done with tunnelling, we had to climb up onto the streets again. I struggled trying to climb. Without the help of ant and ken, I doubt I would be able to climb up. Once onto the streets again, we passed by a water point, which ran out of water. Hence, we had to be contented with ice to hydrate ourselves. The warm sun parted a large role in dehydrating us..Passing the ice point, we walked/jogged to the area outside ikea field. And thankfully, they had a water point there! In fact, one of the guys were kind enough to give us 2 ice mountain water. And he told us that we were at the 2nd last checkpoint then. At this station, we were given 2 planks and had to stepped on them. At any point in time, there must be no contact of our feet with the ground. Faliure to adhere to that rule would be equivalent to having a 5 minute penalty. The 4 of us worked as a team and managed to complete this station relatively fast. We had to walk around a distance and pass through poles which we weren't suppose to knock over as well as a spider web. Sadly though, we incurred a 5 minute time penalty because we touched the spider web. But, I think we exhibited great teamwork as well as wits, especially in the way we crossed the obstacles. :)

checkpoint 6: pasir ris park maze.
task given: hug and roll a pipe.

Leaving ikea, it was long way to pasir ris park. We had to pass through another canal as well as the sungei api api connector. I liked the part where we had to walked through the canal! First, we had to lower ourselves down into the canal through the use of a rope, like abseiling down. Then we walked/jogged through the canal. Some parts of it was quite slippery though. Then, at after travelling a distance, we climbed up again. We took a longer route to pasir ris park after that. We didn't see any race signs and so crossed a bridge when I dunno if we need to or not. But, we still managed to find our way to the checkpoint in the end, though some time was lost. At this station, we had to hug ourselves to this thick pipe and then roll ourselves from one point to another. Any individuals who failed after 3 tries would be given a time penalty of 3minutes. jc is the pro one! After we had helped him to stay on top of the pipe, he rolled all the way to the end point. For the rest of us, we had to push/jerk/kick to reach the end point.

checkpoint 7: white sands field.
task given: complete the race.

Having completed all the stations, we just had to proceed back to where we started off. The starting point was the ending point. However, there was no map given on how we should go back to the starting point. Either we use a shorter route, or a longer route. Asking the passer-bys which was the shortest route to pasir ris mrt station allowed us to take the shorter route back. But I think ken was so fierce when he screamed at the passer-by! Sounds quite unlike him. And so, we were the 1st team of our wave to reach back. 4 of us, hand in hand, ran past the finishing line, and collapsed. We took ourselves we'd complete the race before 1400, and we did. =)

We rested for a while, and then went to pasir ris park again, this time strolling, to wash up. The bathing facilities there were quite good I should say. I lost one shoelace to the park though...

Back to the field at 1610, we waited for more than an hour while the results were collated. And during this period of time, I felt nervous. Ken too I think. The team wanted to win. We'd already put in our best effort. We all felt that we stood a chance of winning, since we came in first for our wave. Around this time, sel and meiying joined us as well.

Finally, the results were released at 1745. The top 3 teams did not include us. Rather, it all came from the teams in the last wave. Perhaps that was why the organisers took such a long time in collating the results. We appealed, but were rejected. We were too slow as compared to the winners.

Not being able to win left me feeling disappointed/sadden/angry/demoralised..we'd train for this race. We set out with the mindset to win. And I'd daresay that we were a bonded and united team, all with the same determination to want to win. Sadly though, our best wasn't enough. :( And, we had disappointed those who had high hopes for us as well.

We didn't stay for the prize presentation, but went for dinner at Swensens' instead. There at least, there was food to comfort us. Coincidentally, we saw Ivy having dinner with her friends there as well.

It really hurts to face failure. You tried so hard, and you worked towards that goal with such the determination and commitment. And still, you failed. But perhaps, it's through failures where you can learn and improve yourself. Then next time round, you'll win.

jak jc. The 4 of us started training a month ago, after we'd sign up for the race. 4 weeks to train, and today, we showed others what aj odac can do. I'm really proud of the team. Despite the leg cramps, none of you gave up on yourselves, nor your team mates. We cheered one another on when we had to. We pushed each other if we need to. Today, we've ran/kayaked/biked/climb/crawl. We may not have won, but, we did our best. We're definitely better than average. We may not have reached the top, but I know that we'll continue to work hard to reach there. So, three cheers. And, thank you.

MIDNIGHT!/ Friday, June 08, 2007

This doesn't seem to be a good week. :(

Some time back, I arranged with joanne for a adventure race clinic in ajc on 7jun. Miscommunication between the 2 of us led to her thinking that the race clinic would be held on 8jun. Therefore, those of us involved in the adventure spore race were actually waiting for nothing to happen at 0900. Luckily, joanne was kind enough to rush down and taught us what we didn't know: ropes ascent. She actually had a meeting at 1000, and yet, she still came down to teach us some skills. I should have confirmed the timing with her again verbally closer to the race clinic day. Then, this wouldn't have happened. My fault. I HAVE TO LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES!!!

How come I keep making so many mistakes? Argh. How should/can I change?

And unknowingly AGAIN, I was rude to someone. This time round, it's towards my junior. Luckily, I was reminded that what I said wasn't very pleasant and could correct myself on the spot.

Chemistry retest for the 2nd time on fri, but, I'm still not prepared. I revised my work. But what I don't understand is why i'm still referring to the tutorial answer when re-attempting the questions. And the equations are still stuck on the mindmap, not my mind. Or maybe it's already in my mind, just that it's floating around, out of my grip. =(

I'm getting pessimistic.

I enjoyed myself trying out the ropes ascent. It's a fun activity. I wonder if both kenneth and I will need to ascent on the race day itself? Hmm. Studying in school seems more effective than studying at home.

MIDNIGHT!/ Monday, June 04, 2007

Oh dear. I'm feeling super guilty now. Was I really very mean and rude to the organiser? I didn't notice it, and certainly didn't mean it. I was just trying to convey my thoughts to her. I suppose I should have been more tactful. =( The guys sure know how to make me feel bad. Maybe I shouldn't have just shoot off what my feelings. I should have tried rethinking the matter from another viewpoint. Perhaps it could have been a mistake on our part as well. Argh. Why do I always seem to offend people? It definitely isn't my intention at all. Then, I was inconsiderate last thursday as well. I shouldn't have played too much then. Sigh.

I wanna learn from my mistakes! I should learn to look at things from another perspective!! Jia you joycelyn!!

SG9 outing :)

18 of us met up at 1500 and went the 1615 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End movie at cathay cine. Thanks to jeremy for helping us book the tickets! Pirates is a nice movie!! Exciting! I thought I wouldn't be able to understand the movie since I didn't watch part I and II but I actually did! hee. Diyanah and Wen Si made cookies for us! Yummy. The movie lasted approximately 3h long so by the time it ended, it was 1900. Dominic and Xing Wuan joined us for dinner after that. As with all large groups of people, we had trouble deciding where to eat. And when we finally decided on what to eat, ie, Swensen's, we found out that there ain't sufficient seats to accommodate all of us. After making enquires at the glasshouse, we found out that they had enough seats and hence, had our dinner at fish and co. Then while waiting for the food to arrive, we played truth or dare. Most of them chose truth...maybe I should have gone the same then. =x Overall, it was definitely an enjoyable outing with SG9!

Jurong Bird Park outing

I joined the 8 of them at the bird park after finishing my econs test. It was my first outing to the bird park! Initially, the map gave me the perception that the bird park would be quite big with alot of attractions. After walking around for a while though, I realise that it wasn't the case. And, I found out that birds ain't something that I like passionately. =.= In fact, if they come too near to me, I'll be scared. Hmm. But overall, it was a great outing, because of the company that I had. :) Lunch at the bird park was expensive! They charge exorbitant prices. After lunch, we walked around for a while viewing the birds and watched the birds of prey show then bade goodbye to the birds..

Pre-University Seminar 2007

I had a wonderful experience at ntu. The bonds we'd formed, the friendship that we'd built. Certainly, the times which my group, SG9, had formed together, will never be forgotten. =) Perhaps I shall update on the details on another day, especially since my com isn't working now and I can't upload pictures. hmmph.

It's not the activities, but the company that matters -aj ODAC.
