MIDNIGHT!/ Friday, May 30, 2008

Work has been anything but interesting. I'm just doing repetitive tasks each week, most of each are data entry stuff. I think the system at which the company is using with isn't effective at all. There's something wrong with the way the department works if you spend a minimum of 3 out of 5 working days only keying in data entry. And then you delicate the remaining little time that you have for your actual job scope.

I think, if not for my commitment and pleasant working environment (and the hassle of looking for another higher pay job), I would have quited this job. It's only 4 months into this job, yet I'm tired/sick/bored of it. That's not to say that I've less efficient and responsible for my work. I still am, just that I can't find anything related to work that motivates me. Right now though, I can't imagine myself working for 4 years at the same job in future. Perhaps I should start contemplating the idea of being a tai tai so that I can enjoy each day without the worries of work. That or start up my own business after I graduate from uni, provided I have enough capital. HAHA.

So it's always like this, that we'd miss our studying days when we step into the workforce. How true. Thankfully, I still have my degree to complete and can treasure my remaining studying life!

Kayaking this weekend! Wheee. (:

MIDNIGHT!/ Monday, May 26, 2008

I like weekends, because it means that I get to meet up with my friends, kayak and rest. :)

I went for dinner with huizhen, fariha, nellyn and vincent at Manhatten's Fish Place on friday night. The food was great, but the service and waiting time was definitely not worth it. We waited for more than an hour before we could be seated and was given the wrong bill for our food towards the end. The staff who served us didn't even bother to explain to the manager that we given the wrong bill. Thanks man. But it was great catching up on each others' going ons.

Saturday was spent at changi with meiying, where practiced our skills. 3 star assessment this sun! We should be able to pass? Haha. We kayaked until 4 plus, then I rushed home, put down my stuff and went to meet up with weiyee, jillian, yvonne, yiting, fred, fabian, zhaocong and yb for dinner at vivo, where we had marche. I haven't eaten marche for like years! The food is abit oily though. =x It was supposed to be a class gathering, but less than half the class turned up..sobs sobs. Perhaps the gathering was too last minute. So after marche, we sat down at some place opposite sentosa and chatted abit. By the time we left, it was close to 11. Yt, fabian and I decided to take bus 93 home. At the end though, I ended up taking the bus alone. Yt and fabian gave up waiting after some time. And cos of the waiting time, I reached home close to midnight! The trip wasn't supposed to be that long actually. It was just the long long long waiting time. I was quite shagged from kayaking under the hot sun in the day, so I simply fell asleep in the bus and nearly overshot my bus stop. =x

And on sunday I woke up super early! I had to be at lower seletar by 7.15am, so I actually woke up at 5.45am. Daron was actually kind enough to fetch me from my place to the venue. Thanks for that! (: It was really kind of him to offer to pick me up. So both of us reached the venue on time, had breakfast bought by sungsheng then went for the briefing. There was this National Concrete Canoe Competition going on at Lower Seletar and the 6 of us (yurong, marcus, rongjie, weicheng, daron and me) were to be the safety kayakers. Hmm. The event was interesting? I've never seen concrete kayaks before..

After the event, we met up with lance for lunch. Daron's the mr nice guy of the day. He didn't join us for lunch, but still gave us a lift down to toa payoh. After lunch, I went home and then slept until the 10pm..was really tired and burned out.

I had my first driving lesson this evening! Dang. I feel like such a noob, because I couldn't even accelerate and move forward/reverse properly. The trainer was laughing at me! Hmmphh. It's not easy!! But I'm going to jia you! I must remember to release the clutch slowly and not accelerate too fast..Haa.

i've been feeling quite sad, down and troubled lately, but you just ain't there to cheer me up. :( and right now, i'm getting confused too.

*yawns* I'm tired and sleepy! Woke up at 2.45am this morning to catch the Champions League finals between Manchester United and Chelsea.

Cristiano Ronaldo took the opening goal, but Frank Lampard equalised at half time. Second half was goalless and after extra time, the score was still 1-1. Nothing special to comment about the way of playing, but Didier Drogba was given the red card for slapping Nemanji Vidic in the face. So penalty time arrived, and it was really saddening to see the John Terry miss the penalty. You could see that he really wanted to Chelsea to win this championship, but yet, he made a blunder. They were so close to winning, but ManU still won in the end. Next season then Chelsea.

:) It's been a fulfilling 2 days of kayaking attachment! Thanks janice, jingxin, tingsheng, bernard, yeehan and mr ong for guiding me along! The 2 different attachments have exposed me to different situations as well as new learning points...I'm thankful that I was given the full opportunity to conduct part of the courses. The coaches were really nice to allow me to experience how it would be like conducting a 1 start kayaking course. And I think I've improved too, as compared to my first attachment. Whee.

And I met up with stacy, yuanhan, siti and meiying after kayaking on saturday for dinner! (: We went to breeks for our main course, then headed to mac's for ice-cream, and a good chat.

Dinner tonight was with janice, where we chatted over a wide range of issues! We could have stayed longer at pastamania, but decided to move after more people started to enter. So we wondered along tampines mall and century square and bought an identical pants! Haa. The pants look nice on both of us! And I got myself a new deuter bag too. There was a sale and sales tempt me. I don't regret buying that bagpack, cos i've been looking for one since last year. I'm a poorer girl now though. And come the Great Singapore Sale, I can predict myself to be much poorer.

Haix. I feel so lost at work! I'm being thrown a stack of claims to do and I don't know how to go about doing it. *sobs* At times, I wonder if I've put in too much effort in my work, though I do take pride in what I'm doing. Okay, I've sorted through that stack of claims today, thankfully. I'll just do things one step at a time with the claims tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a better day!!

Roars. I'm in a cranky mood right now. I need more sleep and I want some answers.

Sobs. How come ntu and smu hasn't offer me any courses??? :( Why why why! It's already nearing mid-may. I'm getting worried. Haix. And I'm not sure if I'm really keen to take up nus offer.

Rewinding back to the weekend, I went night cycling on friday night, didn't catch a wink and went for my attachment on saturday. Thankfully, I survived, and learnt quite alot in the process of my attachment with 25th batch of AJ ODAC. Mr Ong was really kind to share with us his teaching methods. Thanks for that!

So I fell asleep immediately after I reached home and slept for more than 12h. We didn't do much on Mother's Day but had dinner together at Chomp Chomp. My bro and I treated mummy! :)

And there's more to my cranky mood than all these. Once I've let it all out, I should be fine. Right now though, i'm suffering from 'not meeting up with friend' withdrawal syndrome again. BLEAHHH.

MIDNIGHT!/ Thursday, May 08, 2008

I'm going to complain! HMMPH.

I went to Changi General Hospital for my follow-up consultation today and waited 1h 15mins just to see the doctor for 7mins. What a good way to spend a Thursday morning. And a good method to spend $22 too. It was bright and sunny when I reached the hospital, raining after I consulted the doctor and sunny again after I collected my medicine at the pharmacy. Great.

I don't think I'm being unreasonable to comment that I waited for a fairly long time. Being a restructured government hospital, I do expect some waiting time. But 1h 15mins! Perhaps 30mins would be more acceptable.

Seriously, why do we even have to wait in the first place? Okay, maybe the doctor had to see some other patient prior to my appointment and that particular patient took a long time. Definitely, some waiting time, like 30mins, would be reasonable. Any waiting time longer than that, when I already have an appointment, would be a complete waste of time.

If I had to wait so long just to see the specialist doctor, what's the use of having an appointment? Appointments are meant to be met. That's why I made an appointment for the follow-up! (And I didn't even made the appointment. The nurses just gave me a date.) Surely if I'm punctual, in fact early, for the appointment, I shouldn't have to wait for such a long time. It doesn't make sense.

Take National Dental Centre for example. We have to make appointments for our visits and I always get to see my dentist on time. Even if I need to wait, the waiting time is never longer than 15mins. And I don't mind waiting for 15mins.

I don't know about the other restructured government hospitals, but I cannot comprehend why the waiting time has to be this long. If this had been an one off incident, I wouldn't be feeling as irritated as I am now. It's my third follow up visit, and I had to wait this long each visit. I especially took note of the waiting time and the consultation time just to make my point today. Next to that, it takes an indefinitely long time just to move from A&E to the ward, when one gets admitted after going to A&E as well. But the issue here currently shall not be about the long admission time. Otherwise, it'll be never ending.

So many explained that we should expect such a long waiting time since we're paying subsidised rate. If we want to cut down on the waiting time, we should visit a private hospital. But the issue here isn't about paying subsidised rate. It's discrimination if that's the situation. Service quality, in terms of waiting time, should be comparable whether or not the cost is subsidised.

All that said, I can't just complain and not offer any solutions. So here goes :

1. The hospital should impose a cap on the number of patients they can handle at any particular time, taking bottlenecks into consideration. The pros : Shorter waiting time, happier patients, greater efficiency for the staff (I'm not sure how but that definitely can be achieved in some way). The con : Patients may have to wait very long for their next visit.

2. Put up some sign to show how long the waiting time will take. (Think how polyclinics does that.) This solution won't solve the root of the problem, but at least it will appease patients. They know approximately how long they'll need to wait and can run errands if the waiting time is really long.

3. Have more doctors at the specialist clinics. The pro : The hospital fully utilises all the rooms available for consultation, shorter waiting time. The con : There's only a limited number of doctors in Singapore, so it may not be feasible to increase the number of doctors.

MIDNIGHT!/ Monday, May 05, 2008

Whee! I had a great weekend! Enjoyable, pleasant but tiring.

After like 1 year, I finally did my first attachment over the weekend. =x Early in the morning on saturday, I went to changi earlier than usual and took a look at the 1star courses that would be conducted. Being more familiar with yeehan and jingxin, I attached myself to them, who taught a public group of 17 participants. It's really interesting, and I had the opportunity to learn new things, be it ways to make a lesson more interesting, or conducting a lesson. But I did a really horrible job at teaching my skill. :( There's so much more that I don't know and so much to learn. I'm going to work hard at being a good coach! Thanks yeehan and jingxin for giving me pointers and allowing me to understand what being a coach is all about. :)

Good or bad, the weather was hot! Hot weather makes me tired. And it drains my energy! Hmmph. After the course last night, I just slept from 10pm to 7am this morning. And I'm still feeling tired now! The after-effect of the scorching sun. Thankfully I wasn't sun burnt.

We were able to finish the course early on sunday, so we played catching with the participants. Fortunately or unfortunately, all 3 of us got caught. The punishment : rolls. Someone randomly said the number 11 so it ended up that we had to do 11 consecutive rolls. I didn't suceed. yh had to had to rescue me after my third row. Oh man. I have to learn and improve on my 3 star skills! :( That aside, yh and jx are zai. 11 consecutive rolls! *claps claps* And they had to go for canoe polo training after that . They'll be even more burnt out than me..

Dinner on sunday was spent with elaine, laimun, siti, meiying, tingsheng, eungene, ivy and her bf. On elaine's insistence, we had our dinner at ikea. And meatballs are always a must when you dine there. Yummy! (: And of course, the conversations, though cold at times, made the meal even more enjoyable. Thanks to tingsheng for sharing with me coaching stuff on the bus journey to bedok!

On saturday, we ended the course relatively early. The first time where I reached home so early from kayaking..I was already at home at around 6plus. So I rested for a while at home, then went to meet ari, lw and yt for dinner. We ate at MOF and just slacked around esplanade then starbucks..the service at MOF has gotten worse! *sobs* Quite a disappointment as compared to the first time I went there. Nonetheless, the company was good. :)

And rewinding back to friday evening, I met up with fz. We had dinner at carl's junior (my first time there after 19 years!) and caught Ironman. They serve really big portions of food at carl's junior! I was so full after eating the burger. And I had my fries and drink to finish after that. Really stuffed myself so that I won't waste food. But I did donate some of my fries to fz. Haa. He didn't finish his food though! *shakes head* As for the movie, I enjoyed it, though the plot is quite predictable. I guess that's why it's a summer blockbuster. I wonder how the comic version of Ironman is like..Sadly, we missed the ending of Ironman. From what I heard from lw and yt, there's supposed to be an ending after the credits. But both of us left when they showed the credits, so we didn't know there was another scene after the credits..sobs!
